Pull up a stool
A quick hello, and what this place is. I make things I don't really know how to make, and after a lifetime of not showing anybody, I'm finally going to. Welcome.
Hey. Welcome. Come on in, mind the mess.
This is unclemattmakes, which is a dumb name I love, because it finishes a sentence. Uncle Matt makes… whatever I couldn’t stop thinking about that month. Some of it is games. Some of it is electronics that probably should not be plugged in. Some of it leans on AI, some of it is just a soldering iron and a bad idea. The only thing all of it has in common is that I made it, I didn’t really know what I was doing, and I did it anyway.
I am not an expert at any of this. I want that on the record up front. I am a guy who gets an idea stuck in his head and can’t rest until the thing exists, and who has spent most of his life building stuff and then quietly never showing a soul. This site is me knocking that off.
So here is what you will actually get. Real projects, told honestly. Not the polished “and then I shipped it” version, but the part where it broke six times, the dumb mistake that cost me a weekend, the moment it finally worked and I made a noise my neighbors heard. I leave the mistakes in. They are the useful part.
And here is who it is for. If you have ever wanted to make a thing and figured you weren’t smart enough, or trained enough, or allowed, this is for you. You’re allowed. I am proof the bar is lower than it looks. The trick was never being good at it. The trick is just not letting “I don’t know how” be the end of the sentence.
New post about once a week. Pull up a stool and stay a while.
