Uncle Matt, wild-haired, wearing round welding goggles, at his workbench

About

I'd rather show you than tell you. I build things (games, gadgets, little simulated worlds) and I leave the mistakes in, because those are usually the part I learned something from.

During the week I'm Matt Scott, and I make games at a game studio. That's the day job: real deadlines, a real team, the works. This is the other bench, where the personal projects live, built on my own time and run entirely on hyperfocus.

I've always been a sucker for "how'd they do that." The making-of, the commentary track, the post where somebody finally shows the seams. So this site is me returning the favor: how I did it, and why. The why is usually the part that gets left out, and it's usually the part I wanted to know.

I'm not an expert, I'm stubborn. I've been shipping things with other people for almost twenty-five years, and I'm still figuring out most of the stuff here as I go. If you're staring at a pile of parts wondering whether you're allowed to just try: the worst you can do is wreck a component that costs a dollar. I've done it twice.

I post the works-in-progress on Bluesky, if you want to see things earlier and messier.
